Left 4 Dead demo hits XBL Thursday, November 13th, 2008

As many of you are already aware, the Left 4 Dead demo hit Xbox Live on Tuesday. Some people who pre-ordered the game were already granted access to this demo, but many were not (Pernell pre-ordered and never got his demo code). But anyone who was still waiting to try this game seems to have flooded Xbox Live in a scramble to play this much-anticipated demo.

Ain’t No Party Like A Vault Party Friday, October 31st, 2008

Coz a vault party don’t quit!

So, I played Fallout 3 from 9pm - 1am last night. It’s really good. I am enjoying it a lot more than I thought, because I assumed since the perspective is all first-person, and you shoot things, it looks like a first-person-shooter. It’s not. It’s an action-RPG along the lines of KOTOR or Mass Effect or Jade Empire.

Rewind Review - WarTech: Senko Ronde Friday, September 12th, 2008

Cap’n Jack here, with a Rewind Review! The Rewind Review features an old(ish) game that may have slipped under the gaming radar, and we rent, play, and review it for you!

Today, I bring you “WarTech: Senko Ronde“, released in May 2007 for Xbox 360. I tried this game upon a suggestion from one of Pernell’s friends he saw at PAX 2008. This game puts you in the role of a Rounder Mech pilot, in which you must battle your way past enemies in a story set in the distant future. Earth and the entire galaxy are your battleground, as you fight an assortment of mechs and bosses.

Geometry Wars 2 Review Thursday, July 31st, 2008

The original Geometry Wars is often touted as “the best Xbox 360 launch title”…since most of the full-fledged, disc-&-box launch titles were generally lame. I was a latecomer to the 360 party, so I missed out on that little gem until somewhat recently. Though I really enjoy them, I’m not too great at retro shoot-em-ups. Having played a good few hours of it last night, I can say that Geometry Wars 2 delivers on its promise of Retro Evolved SQUARED. The new modes, multiplayer and enemy types make for a more well-rounded experience. A nice coat of shiny polish has been applied to the graphics, controls, music, everything. But, most important of all, I’m the only one of my Friends who owns it so far, so I’m on the top of my Friends Leaderboard! But for how long?!? Read on for detailed impressions…

DEVO, In MY Rock Band?!?! Friday, May 23rd, 2008

 Joystiq's Devo/Rock Band picture

…It’s more likely than you think.  I just read this article on Joystiq, and after I stopped gasping in joy and disbelief long enough, I decided to post the news here to share it with the 5 people who know about this site.  Not only are some Devo songs coming to Rock Band, but they actually re-recorded “Through Being Cool” just for the game, replacing all the synth solos & leads with guitar!  Somebody slap me dead in the face so I know I’m not dreaming.  Good God, it’s from a video interview.  I’m off to watch that now.

“Bionic Commando ReArmed” Footage Thursday, January 17th, 2008

I have a lot of options here for a comment to accompany this video. But sentiments like “I think I need new pants…and a new chair” or “Was it good for you?” seem to ring hollow when juxtaposed with the majesty I’ve just witnessed. My………my God. I cannot wait. I hope they keep it as actual Hitler this time and not “Master D”…though the reference to a soldier calling you a “nerd” seems like they’re very aware of the old NES translation. If you’re not aware of the differences introduced in the US translation of the NES original, click here. It’s an old article I wrote on the subject back in, what, 2002? Geezus.

Upcoming Rock Band DLC Leaked Thursday, January 17th, 2008

rockband_oasis_xbox-490px.jpg

According to this Joystiq post, the Rock Band DLC has been accidentally announced for the rest of January:

Jan 23rd: Oasis Pack
I’m not even going to go into this since I hate Oasis so goddamm much. I’d rather put a drill in my ear than hear Wonderwall or Don’t Look Back In Anger ever again, let alone PLAY them.

Jan 30th: Progressive Pack (!!)
Siva” by Smashing Pumpkins
(don’t know this one, but hey, it’s the Plumpkins!)

Working Man” made famous by Rush
(there’s better Rush songs out there, but I do enjoy this song. Also, more Rush is never a bad thing)

Ten Speed (of God’s Blood and Burial)” made famous by Coheed and Cambria
(my other favorite song from my favorite C&C album, aside from the one that came with Rock Band (Welcome Home). The lyrics are ridiculous because it’s about the crazy writer character literally arguing with his bicycle about whether he should kill off a major character in the big sci-fi story, but it rocks so hard I really can’t fault it. This is a dream come true and will be the culmination of all my hard practice in the car this week. ……I am, however, slightly concerned about it being a cover. I find it very hard to believe that they found a singer who sounds like Claudio. Of course, that singer will be ME, so we’ll see.)
