Basic/Trick Technical Division Maniac Technical Division Freestyle Division |

The actual turn out was less than I had expected, with the majority of entries being for the basic/trick division, and only 5 entries in the maniac division. But in fact everything worked out okay. After a fairly long qualification round for the basic/trick div, 16 out of about 20 some players moved onto the single elimation tournament. As expected, GER and Syn, both out of towners, began to dominate. Though not far behind was the soft spoken Zeiram of Maryland, fighting for 1st place. And to our surprise, defeated the Jersey DDR vet, Syn, to win 1st place. As for the maniac division, I began to get a little worried about how to divide the prize money, and how to even have the players compete against eachother. Thanks to the quick thinking of yours truly, and the help of Leo, a rather good round robin style tournament took place. Leo, of course, dominated with his choices of Orion.78, Xanadu and Sana molietasomethingorother. Not far behind was the only Delaware player to really pull out the mad skills place in the technical divisions: Jerome! All in all, for only having 5 player(1 forfeiting due to "injury"), it was a very interesting and competitive tournament. After a short break it was time for everybody's favorite(or at least mine) division, at around 630pm the Freestyle competition began. The ampliphier was cranked, and everyone was syked. First up was Matt with "Can't stop fallin in Love". More of a PA then a freestyle, then again most Delaware players dont know alot about freestyle yet, this will come up again. Next was Leo and Syn's doubles routine, a ghetto'd out version of "Pink Dinosaur". The crowd really got goin after this one. And went on to place 3rd place. GER took the stage next with his "Cafe" routine... GER never fails to please, with some insane moves and pad humping(while keeping a combo going no less) This really raised the bar for audience reaction... which won the routine 1st place. Next was Leo's. Leo if yer readin this, forgive me because i forgot what your song was, but i remember your flow bein really good! Then came Delaware's own Jerome, with the same old d-rave routine. Which won 2nd place... I can't stress the importance of actually dancing enough, but then again, it was up to the judges not me. handslap, knee drop, handslap handslap. Syn's routine was my personal favorite. An improv freestyle of "Shake your Booty" on single basic shuffle. Harlem shake, booty dance, it was all here. This routine won the special "GHETTO FRESH FREESTYLE NUMBER ONE" trophy. Nate, aka, Killa, came up with his barefoot dance of "Dam Dariam" single basic... not a whole lot here, but he was really into it. Lastly(of course i forgot to add them in, doh!) was Jerome and Tim's double d-rave routine. No offense to these people, they really tried and did a good job, but again, it's the same old d-rave doubles routine, it seems to be the same for everybody, despite the fact that alot of them have not seen others play it. Well, after the freestyle tournament, we all ordered pizza, hung out with the MD and NJ crew at Wendy's and talked about Frosty's.... mmmm frostys. |
