Comic Con Experience Monday, July 28th, 2008

So I was just going to post about my time kicking it at the Pixel Junk Eden Booth where me and the wife got addicted to this new PS3 classic in the making, but I don’t want to short change you guys so I’ll hit you guys with the highlights.

First off here’s Kanna playing Motorstorm 3 where a hands on beta was available for the first time to the public. The game is incredibly fun and up to four players were getting it in at the booth a few feet away from the new SOCOM, Buzz and handouts of exclussive giveaways of Eye of Judgement Cards.

Of course my highlight of the day came when I sat in on the Attack of the Show Pannel and met Kevin Periera, Olivia Munn, Blair Butler and Cobra Commander. Kevin’s parents and Drunken Ted (Given away to whoever could make the quickest burrito) also made appearances. Those guys are soooo authentic!! It was really amazing to meet them and watch how they interact with another. The family-like chemistry was definatly there. Oh and I also met the “uber-fan” Fritz. Hey flew there from Philly!!! Someone give that man a job!!

All and all it was an awesome experience!!! Anyone that can find the AOTS panel online hit me up! Oh and check out this game I picked up at one of the booths. Its free from NCSoft. There are ads and microtransactions but they don’t hender the experience if you want to stay free. Its called Exteel and its a Mech-based p-vs-p game. Once you get past the Tutorial its lots of fun. If your on, find me. Tyger0! Holla…

Opening Beer Bottles Monday, June 30th, 2008

Found this great instructable with many different ways to open beer bottles. A few of them are actually pretty creative and useful! This instructable explains the following beer-reaping methods:

  • The pry method
  • The thump method
  • The push up method
  • Using a hook
  • The empty bottle method

Of course, I typically buy twist-offs, so I don’t have this problem too often. But there are many brands that still use the traditional caps that make it all the more frustrating when there’s metal in the way between your mouth and delicious, thirst-quenching beer.

Also, check the comments for more beer-opening techniques, like the ball-point pen method. One commenter says that all proper beer comes in cans. Maybe on the moon, but not in America, buddy! The best beer comes in bathtubs!

iPhone 2.0 News Makes Me Yawn Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

This week, Apple announced the new iPhone 2.0 at the WWDC. While the addition of 3G is good (shoulda been there in the first version if you ask me), there’s a lot of disappointments:

No additional storage
No better camera
No camera on the front for videoconferencing
No additional RAM
No MMS
No bluetooth audio
No video capability
No turn-by-turn navigation
No copy/paste function

But… you get GAMES!!!11 Oh, and 3G is important, but not really a selling point since the data plan adds up to $45 to my existing $50 plan. Is it worth it? For some people, maybe. The drop in price will definitely convince a lot of people to buy the new iPhone. For me, I was hoping for some extra features.

Since I already have a Jailbroken iPod Touch, I have added a lot of neat software that gives me the ability to send MMS via email, and copy/paste functions. And, I’ve almost filled up my 16 GB storage. So what’s the incentive to buy an iPhone now? Will there be a SIM card slot in this new version? Maybe that will be a selling point for some people. I might consider it if it meant I can hook up my work SIM card into an iPhone and let my job pay for the data!

A Tree With Solar-cell Leaves Thursday, June 5th, 2008

Solar Plant!Well, this is pretty cool! I could see owning a few of these plants to power small electronics and whatnot. Found this article via Engadget. From Tech-On of Japan:

“A Japanese institute and firms prototyped a foliage plant-like solar cell module by using organic thin-film solar cells.

A leaf-like module featuring bright green solar cells was developed by National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Mitsubishi Corp and Tokki Corp.

The organic thin-film solar cell consists of a plastic substrate, phthalocyanine layer, fullerene layer and so forth. And eight 7.5cm2 solar cells connected in series constitute about 60cm2 solar cell module. “

So, pretty neat! Organic film with solar cells inside of it. Won’t be long until our coats and hats have solar cells all over them, eh? Maybe the roofs of our cars could have many layers of these organic cells? At any rate, it’s interesting. You see fake plants all over the place, so maybe someday soon those fake plants will have a use other than decoration and collecting dust!

Quick and Easy Wii Homebrew Hack Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

homebrew_channel.jpgHomebrew? On my Wii?? It may be easier than you thought!Instructables user ‘btop’ has just posted a very helpful guide on how to add “The Homebrew Channel”, or other homebrew apps, to your Wii with only an SD card and The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess. But, to do it you’ll need to transfer a save file onto the SD card, so you’ll need an SD reader of some sort. I have a USB thumb drive SD card reader, which is very handy on the go. Read all about this hack on Instructables.
