So, Tim (aka Karrde) came to my apartment sometime in the middle of July looking for help. He had a group project due the next day which I think involved writing a paper or something about how Delaware County Community College isn't as bad as you might think it is. He thought it would be good to do a little "above-and-beyond" work to help his standing in the class, so he decided a quick 30 second fake radio commercial might do the trick.
We decided that it would be funny to do one that mimics the bad community college radio spots where they try to pretend that it's just two kids just like you having an everyday conversation that just happens to contain ridiculous amounts of specific information. Instead of going for the usual badly misguided attempt at extreme dialog (y'know, the way all you kids talk these days, with your GTA: San Andreas or your angry/boohoo-ey butt-metal rock) we decided it would be funnier have the characters talk like a combination of Dean Venture and Beaver Cleaver. A mish-mash of 1930's/1950's lingo set in present day. We found some extremely lame guitar audio and looped it behind the main info part. Maximum cheese was our goal, devoid of any speck of irony so as to make the entire thing ironic and purposefully lame and dumb.
The whole thing took 1.5 hours at most...from writing to finished product. Still, it ended up pretty good. I burned it to a CD for Tim and he brought it to his class. He said his teacher was so impressed with it that it was given to the Dean and they might put it out on actual radio. Hilarious. |
