Way back before there was a Waffle Squadron, there was the Genki Crew. Based out of the area in and around Wilmington, DE, they basically hung out, geeked out & drank. At one point, they decided to create a website called www.genki-web.net . Soon after that, they collaborated on an ingenious project. Here's a quote from Jack's (Shad's) Hamstah Gangstaz section of the old genki-web:
"So, what is Hamstah Gangstaz? It all started when Shad
(that's me) brought a videotape of Tottoko Hamutaro back from Japan.
I forgot about it for awhile until one evening when several of us were
very, very drunk. In our inebriation we joked about how funny it would
be if the cute, cuddly little hamsters swore like sailors and pimped
like... well, er, pimps. Months (and many drinks) later, we recorded
the Master Dub for our anime parody which we aptly named Hamstah Gangstaz."
Some short time later, I (MattBoySlim) joined the Genki Crew. The Hamstah Gangstaz fan parody actually got approved by Otakon in 2002 to be shown in one of their theaters. Boy oh boy, that was a crazy night. Some people in the audience left right off the bat...I guess they expected something less filthy. The people who stayed loved it, though, and it was a great time. We tossed VCDs into the crowd and we've since heard it mentioned by people we don't even know, which is pretty awesome.
A few months ago, I posted it on YouTube. Since they restrict your files to a maximum of 10 minutes, I had to split it up into 3 segments (Part1 - Part2 - Part3). But now that I've taught myself a little Flash, I give it to you as it was originally meant to be viewed, uninterrupted and in higher quality.
I've re-mastered it using DVD-quality footage. Some small scenes were cut out for time in the American version, so you'll see the old VCD video pop in every once in a while, filling in the gaps (most noticeable in the beginning). As for the audio, it's as good as it's gonna get at this point. If we happen upon a Japanese version of the DVD, maybe we'll dig up the old source audio and try and clean it up more. Still, it probably won't sound much better...the original recording was just plain bad to begin with. But hey, I can understand everything that's being said and I wasn't even around for the original production, so it's not all that bad. Actually, sitting here testing the Flash version with headphones, it's the clearest it's ever been! Neat.
