Every year for the past six years or so, on the second or third Saturday in December, my sister and brother-in-law throw a massive Christmas party. There's always one or two kegs, lots of cases of various alcoholic beverages, snacks, hors d'oeuvres, etc.
However, the main attraction for most is in the garage. That's where the almighty Shot Luge is kept. For those who don't know, the Shot Luge is basically a 300 lb block of ice. Tracks are carved on one of the large sides of the rectangular block, usually leading from a larger depression at the top straight to the other end. The block is then laid at a certain angle and raised so that the end of the track is at a reasonably comfortable face level. Someone puts their mouth at the bottom and another person pours a shot into the top of the track. By the time the liquid reaches the bottom it's moving fast and chilled cold, supposedly to make the shot go down smoother. Whether it does or not is a moot point because it's a whole lot more fun than just drinking Goldschlager from a glass.
The party gets more and more outlandish every year. The insanity level seems to be increasing exponentially as more people show up and the party technology improves. Therefore, this year I wanted to make sure to capture as much as I could and digitally immortalize it here on WaffleSquadronOmega.com. Consider this a behind-the-scenes look at the creation and execution of the greatest party of 2005!
