Cowboy Bebop Live Action Movie Is Imminent!
So, somehow If Magazine got an exclusive interview with producer Erwin Stoff, where he revealed that he just signed a deal with Fox to product a live action Cowboy Bebop movie.
According to Mr. Stoff, the deal was just recently signed, so there’s no details available as of yet. More on the interview after this break.

Hm, interesting. They misspelled his name in the last paragraph. Anyway, according to imdb, Stoff is an executive producer (sometimes just producer), who has helped to bring us these noteworthy films:
- I Am Legend
- A Scanner Darkly
- Constantine
- Biker Boyz
- The Replacements
- Austin Powers 2: The Spy Who Shagged Me
- The Matrix
- Chain Reaction
- Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey
Okay, Biker Boyz? I saw that, and it was really… uhhh, bad? But, executive producer of The Matrix, and avoiding Matrix 2 and 3 is not bad. Also, I Am Legend and Constantine were pretty good. Scanner Darkley….not so much, but it shows he’s open-minded I guess.
Not really sure how I feel about this just yet. Cowboy Bebop remains one of, if not my number one, favorite anime. That’s probably true for a lot of people. That also means that Fox has some pretty big expectations to meet, or else fans are going to bitch. They’ll probably bitch anyway, but we all know that Hollywood has a tendency to screw up our childhood memories. But, they’ve also been known to drag us back through time through childhood fantasies, beyond our wildest dreams!
So I guess the rumors and speculation can now commence. I can’t even begin to guess who will get cast for this flick, or how they’re going to shorten about 13 hours (maybe 10 hours, if you remove the fluff) of plot from the original 26 episode animated TV series. I’ll have to think about this.

A Scanner Darkly was insanely close to the source material. If you watched the movie, you basically read the book…it’s just that the book wasn’t all that great to begin with. A good live-action BeBop might be cool, but I’m not sure it entirely necessary. The anime is great on its own. Why not just use that money to make another (better) animated movie?
